Hyperlife

It should not be said that the year 2009 is going to be an easy year to face. The Media adds to this mood with its endless reminders of global problems such as economic recession, job losses, environmental issues, and episodes of war. History teaches us that major social changes are often the result of conflicts, revolutions, and social struggles. We know that there is light at the end of every tunnel, and that crises of the past have lead to change for the better- generational evolution and economic booms. A German lady spends a similar sum when she orders a custom-made backgammon set in a sleek black design that matches the interior of her husband’s super-yacht.
Five minutes walk away, at Van Cleef & Arpels on Bond Street, another London financier spends 300,000 euros on a necklace.
"Very established brands give you confidence – they can stay with you and help you live through the crisis," said Van Cleef & Arpel’s UK Brand Director, Geoffrey Medinger……

Dresses with the Roots

Emotional resonances, ethnic fusions, and exploratory
forms dominate the creative universe of the Sardinian designer
BY Paolo Briscese

Antonio Marras is a great innovator, and a free spirit in today’s fashion world- he is a creator and a sorcerer, who has the ability to shape matter, as if he were a sculptor. The deconstruction of form, the notion of travel, and the use of ornament as a symbolic element, are the three main style codes for this cosmopolitan nomad: when he creates, he brings together the history of costume, with its references to contemporary art, and the emotional resonances of both folktales and formal literature alike, so that his creativity knows no cultural or intellectual hierarchy…..
